Mrs. Lillian Betty Cockerham Adams, age 83, of Lyles Street, passed away Monday, November 22, 2004 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mrs. Adams was born August 19, 1921 in Surry County to Everett “Bud” & Augusta Eldridge Cockerham.

Mrs. Adams was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church where she participated in the Birthday Club and she was a member of a quilting club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Joseph Adams; a brother, Dula Cockerham; two sisters, Ice Lemmons and Margie Hager; a granddaughter, Joy Louise Hawkins.

Survivors include: two sons, Bobby Lee Adams and wife Janie of Max Meadows, VA., Gail F. Adams and wife Glenda of Niceville, FL.; a daughter, Belvin Louise Adams Hawkins and husband Clyde of Monroe; a brother, Joe Cockerham and wife Barbara of High Point; three sisters, Myrtle Moody of Elkin, Betty Swaim of Jonesville, Lorene Bud of High Point; five grandchildren and spouses, Todd, Al & Tammy, Neil & Ashley, Joey, Alicia & Doug; five great grandchildren, Tiffinay, Joshua, Loren, Lexie and Hayden.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church by Rev. Clyde Hawkins, Rev. Steve Kramm and Rev. Roger Hensley. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Adams will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Poplar Springs Baptist Church Building Fund.
