Brenda Carter Byrd

Mrs. Brenda Carter Byrd, age 76 of Elkin, passed away Monday, February 5, 2018 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital.  Mrs. Byrd was born on December 13, 1941 in Wilkes County.  She was the daughter of the late Alton and Hattie Barker Carter.

Mrs. Byrd graduated from East Wilkes High School.  On December 1, 1963, she married Jerry Thomas Byrd.  Mrs. Byrd was a lifelong member of Oak Level Baptist Church and retired from Chatham Manufacturing Company after many years of employment.  Mrs. Byrd was a lovingly devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

In addition to her husband of 54 years, she is survived by her daughter, Kim Dockery and husband Chuck; granddaughter, Meredith Dockery, all of Statesville; brothers, T.D. Carter and wife Nora, Stony Carter and wife Sara; sister, Gail Harris; nephews, Marty Carter, Sandy Carter and Jeff Harris; and niece, Sheila Carter Sparks.

The family sincerely appreciates the many years of outstanding care given to Mrs. Byrd and her husband by Shirley Norman, Teresa Lyons, Janet McCann, Barbara Prevette, Edith Dameron and the late Debra Speece.

Services celebrating Mrs. Byrd’s life will be held Friday, February 9, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Level Baptist Church with her nephew, The Reverend Dr. Jeff Harris and The Reverend Keith Wood officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church following the burial.
