Alene Blackburn Mathis

Mrs. Alene Blackburn Mathis, age 81, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2016. Mrs. Mathis was born February 13, 1935 in Wilkes County to Nathaniel and Hallie Darnell Blackburn.
Alene was a loving mother and grandmother and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Lowell Blackburn, Paul “Pete” Blackburn, Harvey Blackburn and Ivory Blackburn; sisters, Pansy Macemore, Verlie Cheek and Peggy Blackburn.
Survivors include: her husband, Edgar Mathis of the home; sons, Doylan Mathis and wife Kimberly of Elkin and Marty Mathis of Elkin; daughter, Debbie Dameron and husband Steven of Elkin; grandchildren, Brad Mathis of Roaring River, Chris Mathis of Elkin and Nicole Mathis of Tallahassee, FL; great-grandson, Daniel Mathis; sisters-in-law, Sue Blackburn of State Road and Caroleen Gregory and husband Bob of Hamptonville; several special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 29, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Dodds, Rev. Joe Wood and Brad Mathis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:30-5:00 p.m. at the church.
