Mrs. Laura Mozelle Foard Boyd, age 96 of Elkin, passed away Monday, July 4, 2011 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Boyd was born September 25, 1914 in Alleghany County to Robert Austin and Etta Osborne Foard. She was retired from Chatham manufacturing and was a member of Benham Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for over 50 years. Mrs. Boyd was also a member of the Allegheny Quilters Guild and a member of the National Campers and Hikers Association for over 50 years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry C. Boyd and grandson, Mark B. Southard. Survivors include her son, Richard M. Boyd of Elkin; daughter, Dolores B. Southard and her husband Billy J. of Elkin; grandchildren, Greg Southard of Gibsonville, Laura Smidt of South Riding, VA, Rebecca Compton of South Riding, VA, Richard Boyd, Jr. of Kernersville, and Stephen F. Boyd of Kernersville; great grandchildren, James Smidt of South Riding, VA Matthew Smidt of South Riding, VA, William Southard of Cape Cod, MA, and Ashton Southard of Rochester Hills, MI. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in Benham Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon and evening at the home of Dolores B. Southard, 3817 Austin-Traphill Road, Elkin, NC 28621. The family requests that memorials be made to Benham Baptist Church, 8697 Greenhorn Road, Elkin, NC 28621. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital and the staff of Heritage Healthcare of Elkin for their care.
