Anita Wood Canter

Anita Wood Canter, born on June 7, 1966, in Elkin, NC, peacefully passed away on December 3, 2025, at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. She was a beloved member of her community and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Anita had a genuine love for the beach, animals, cooking, and her work sitting with the elderly, bringing joy and comfort to those in her care. She found fulfillment in simple pleasures and cherished moments spent with her loved ones.

Anita is survived by her sons, Edward Gray Hamby and David Allen Hall; her daughter, Ashley Gail Hall; her stepson, Timothy Canter; her brother, Elza Shelton Wood, Jr.; her daughter-in-law, Amanda Hall; her aunt, Pat Long (Blake); her uncle, Jerry Crouse; and her 5 grandchildren, Lucas Hall, Breanna Hall, Hunter Hall, Paisley Messick, and Jake Messick.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Keith Canter, Jr.; her parents, Elza Shelton Wood and Erma Ruth Billings; and her brother, Tommy Gray Hamby, II.

A memorial service will be held at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel on December 12th, 2025, beginning at 3:00 PM, with visitation from 2:00 - 3:00 PM.

Anita Wood Canter will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, and dedication to her family and community. May she rest in peace as her memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved her.
