Mrs. Bertie Mae Gentry Norman, age 91, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. Mrs. Norman was born December 21, 1933, in Surry County, to A.C. and Myrtle Durham Gentry.
Mrs. Norman was a longtime and faithful member of Benham Baptist Church until her health declined. Bertie worked for Johnson Brothers Trucking in her early career and then Cash & Carry Wholesale until her retirement. She loved planting a vegetable garden, planting flowers and sharing her vegetables while her health allowed. Bertie enjoyed Tarheel Basketball, Atlanta Braves Baseball and a good football game on Sunday. She enjoyed reading and loved puzzles. In her younger days there would always be a jigsaw puzzle to put together and later, it was crossword puzzles. Bertie loved her family and friends most of all and looked forward to their visits and spending time together sharing a meal as she was an excellent cook, her family has too many favorite meals to mention.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Scott Norman and brother, Robert Gentry.
Survivors include: her son, Doug Norman and wife JoAnn of North Wilkesboro; daughter, Sharon Curtis and husband Joe of Boonville; sisters, Irene Key of Jonesville and Jo Poplin of Pfafftown; grandchildren, Emily Sellers and husband Rob, Kelly Phillips and husband Kyle, Scott Norman, Josh Norman and Will Norman; great-grandchildren, Porter Phillips, Sutton Phillips and Bodie Sellers; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 7, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Stewart Roten officiating. Burial will follow at Benham Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
