Mrs. Betty Fitzsimmons Hamby, age 93, of State Road, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, North Carolina.
Betty was born on December 1, 1931, in Baltimore, Maryland, to James and Edith Burkemon Fitzsimmons. She was a devoted member of Center Baptist Church and found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Betty loved watching her hummingbirds, cherishing their beauty. She also had a passion for cooking and took great pride in canning.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Hamby; her children, Glenn Robert Hamby, George David Hamby, Tina Marie Hamby, and Allan Wayne Hamby; her sisters, Margaret Bradley, Marie Fitzsimmons, Rita Geurtler, Edith Fitzsimmons, and Gertrude Shaver; and her brothers, John Fitzsimmons, Leo Fitzsimmons, Eddie Fitzsimmons, Charles Fitzsimmons, Barney Fitzsimmons, and Frances Fitzsimmons.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Daniel Hamby, Ryan Hamby, Robert Hamby, and Melinda Rosenbaum; her sister, Agnes Eakle; and special nephews, Chris Hamby, Darrell Smith, and Brian Smith; as well as special nieces, Karen Malott and Peggy Williams, several loving nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Betty was also blessed to have a dear friend, Jennifer Niten.
A graveside service to honor Betty’s life will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Crestwood Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Jonathan Niten officiating.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Hugh Chatham 2nd-floor ICU staff and the dedicated caregivers at Mountain Valley Hospice for their love, compassion, and care during this difficult time.
