Coy Jack Poplin, age 77 of Ronda, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Chatham Nursing Center. Coy was born May 28, 1948, in Wilkes County to “Jack” and Susie Tharpe Poplin.
After attending East Wilkes High School, he was drafted and served with the US Army in Vietnam. Following his discharge from the army, he worked at RJ Reynolds until his retirement. Coy enjoyed being outside, loved his gardens, and playing a good round of golf. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Ferris Poplin; his daughter, Scarlet Leigh Poplin; his brothers, Brent Poplin and Ivan Poplin; and his sister, Linda Poplin.
Coy is survived by siblings Tommie (Bobby) Ford of Elkin, Sandy (Rosann) Poplin of Ronda, and Jeff (Beth) Poplin of Elkin; stepdaughter Tabetha Lambeth of Roaring River, grandchildren Joshua Gunter, Jared Tincher, Sara Jarvis, and Josiah Jarvis; close friend and companion, Nancy Steelman, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Smith officiating. A private inurnment will be at a later date. The family will receive friends following the service.
