Denise Ruth Lafone

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Denise Lafone, 73, of Elkin, NC, on April 22, 2025. She passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. Denise was a devoted mother to Heather Trafon (Megan), Hilary Lafone (Mike) and Barry Shannon Lafone II, and grandmother to Stryder, Ryker, Haiden, Alexius, Remy and Caspian. Denise was preceded in death by her sister Debra Seipel (Rick). She is survived by her sister, Michelle Hand-Arevalo (Chuchi), nephews Tate, Chase and Joey Seipel-Parks (Kim), and great nephews Henry and Eli.

Denise was born in Columbus, Ohio, and graduated in 1969 from Bishop Ready High School. She lived most of her life in Newport Beach, CA, where she worked as a comptroller for several companies. After retirement, Denise pursued her passion of baking and started a small wedding cake business. Her cheesecakes were legendary, and brought much joy to her clients, family and friends.

Denise was an unforgettable presence, and her love of champagne taught us that celebration doesn’t need a reason.

A celebration of life will be held in Newport Beach, CA, this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (pulmonaryfibrosis.org).
