Ethelene Carter

Mrs. Ethelene Cothren Carter, age 85, of State Road passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, November 10, 2019. Ethelene was born June 8, 1934 in Surry County to James “Jim” Odell Cothren and Epel Billings Cothren.

Mrs. Carter was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church where she served in various roles including singing in the choir, serving on the kitchen committee, vacation bible school, and tending to the nursery. She retired from Chatham Manufacturing with 33 years of service.

Ethelene was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was faithful to her church, family, and friends and will be remembered for her giving heart and love for others.

In addition to her parents, Ethelene was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Fred Carter; infant great-grandson, Carter Gray Reece; brothers and sister-in-law, Donald (Betty Jo) Cothren, and Fred Cothren.

Survivors include: daughter, Karen (David) Caffey of Clemmons; son, Chris (Joan) Carter of Hendersonville; daughter, Kathy (Donald) Reece of Boonville; six grandchildren, Lindsay (Ryan) Locklear, Kymberly Caffey, Matthew (Ashley) Caffey, Lauren Carter, Kristen Carter, Kacie (Joshua) Sparks; four great-grandchildren, Jaxson Locklear, Ayla Sparks, Kenadie Sparks, Jocie Sparks; brother, Claytus (Joyce) Cothren; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Alex Carter, Elizabeth Cothren, Judy (Huw) Williams, and Raydell Carter.

A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Pastor Mitch Smith; Mr. Charlie Sealey, and Mrs. Judy Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends, Monday, November 11, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
