Harold Wilson Tilley

Mr. Harold Wilson Tilley, age 89, passed away Monday, August 3, 2026 at Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Tilley was born May 16, 1937 in Wilkes County to Clyde Wilson and Ruby Hemric Tilley.

Harold retired from the NC National Guard, serving from July 1960 through June 1983 as Staff Sargent, Mortar Platoon Section Leader of the 120th Infantry and Rifle Sharpshooter. Mr. Tilley owned Harold Tilley Construction and  loved building homes for people in need and was a big contributor in building the first few Habitat for Humanity homes in Elkin. He loved working, spending time with the love of his life, Louise, traveling and riding his John Deere Tractor. Harold contributed tons of blood and plasma over several decades to the American Red Cross.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Louise Barker Tilley and brothers, Doug Tilley and Larry E. Tilley.

Survivors include: several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Crestwood Memorial Gardens with Dr Stephen Robbins officiating and Military Honors provided by Yadkin County, VFW Post 10346. Mr. Tilley will lie-in-state from 10:30-12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at Elkin Funeral Service.
