Hilary Alexander Carter

Mr. Hilary “Alex” Alexander Carter, age 97, passed away Monday, July 21,2025 at Chatham Nursing Center. Mr. Carter was born May 18,1928 in Surry County to Bramlett Worth and Oma Bauguess Carter.

Mr. Carter retired from Sprint as a Telephone Technician. He was the oldest and most tenured member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church serving as a Deacon, Church Clerk, trustee and a member of the building and cemetery committees. Alex was a jack of all trades, he enjoyed wood working, photos, writing, computers, genealogy, coin collecting and traveling to all the states collecting antiques.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Mark Carter; brother, Fred Carter; grandson, Stephen Barker; sons-in-law, Teddy Ermal Barker and Tommy Dean Whisnant.

Survivors include his wife, Raydell Wolfe Carter of Elkin; daughter, Lynn Barker Whisnant of Morganton; daughter-in-law, Kim Carter of Virginia; sister, Judy Kate Williams and husband Huw of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Jason Carter, Brandon Carter and Jessica Carter; great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, Zoe, McKenzie, Kayleigh and Bailey; great-great-grandchild, Semirha.

The family will receive friends Thursday, July 24,2025 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. A private graveside service will follow the visitation.

The family requests memorials be made to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1197 Pleasant Ridge Road, State Road, NC 28676.
