Iva Grace Combs

Iva Grace Lyon Combs, age 82, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2026, at her residence in Austin.

Mrs. Combs was born September 29, 1943, in Wilkes County to Tyre and Stella Mae Sanders Lyon.

Like many country folk, Iva lived a simple life that was guided by her faith in God. At the time of her passing she was the oldest member of Old Roaring River Primitive Baptist Church where, at one time, she served as church secretary. During her younger years she enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning, and cooking. Cooking for her family was one of her greatest joys, and she was known for her chicken and dumplings and banana pudding.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Buster Combs; Sons: Randy Combs and Ricky Combs; a great-grandson, Kaleb Luke Combs; and brother Wesley Lyon.

Survivors include: a daughter, Debbie Wood and husband Randy of Austin; a brother Elder John Lyon, sisters: Vina Absher, Alma Lovette, Eula Pruitt, Rachel Fender, Caroleen Wagoner, and Margie Carter and husband Randy; grandchildren, Shannon Wood, Kristy Wood, Randy Comb and partner Meagan Cheek, and Joseph Combs; and eight great grandchildren, Jared Wood, Payton Luffman, Hunter Combs, Noah Combs, Stella Wood, Emma Combs, Lisa Combs, and Ivy Combs.

A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Old Roaring River Primitive Baptist Church with Elder John Lyon, Elder Lowell Hopkins, and Elder Carlton Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Roaring River Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Old Roaring River Primitive Baptist Church.
