Ray Cox

Mr. James Ray Cox, age 86, of Thurmond, passed away Monday, July 28, 2025, at his residence.

Mr. Cox was born January 28, 1939, in Smyth County, Virginia to Earl L. and Nellie Terry Cox.

Mr. Cox was a United States Navy Veteran and enjoyed farming and antique cars. He retired from Chatham Manufacturing after 42 years of service in the Power Plant. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers; Tommy Cox and Brady Cox; sisters, Faye Poteat and Helen Cox.

Survivors include: his wife, Ima Jean Wilmoth Cox of the home; daughters, Lesia Prevette and husband Ron of Thurmond and Angela Cox of Thurmond; grandchildren, Kye Gilliam and Jared Gilliam and Breanna; great-grandchild, Ozzy Quinn Gilliam and several nieces and nephews.

All services will be private.
