James Reed Kelly

Mr. James “Jim” `Reed Kelly III, age 73, of Elkin, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Hugh Chatham Health.

Jim was born March 19, 1950 in Herrin, Illinois to James Reed Kelly, Jr., and Virginia Kelly. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam War. He received two Purple Heart medals and retired as Senior Chief after 20 years of service. Following retirement, Jim was an avid fly fisherman.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: wife of 40 years, Melissa R. Kelly of the home; mother-in-law, Anne Reedy of Summerville, SC; and two sisters.

All services are private.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
