Wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories.
With incredible sadness, we announce the passing of Jerry Miles Ross, age 87, on July 12, 2026.
Jerry was born on Christmas Day, 1938, to Coy and Janie Royall Ross in Thurmond, North Carolina.
A man of deep faith, Jerry was an active and devoted member of First Baptist Church of Stanleyville.
Jerry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Following his military service, Jerry retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after thirty years of dedicated service. He continued working for another nineteen years at Vogler’s Funeral Services.
Jerry truly loved life. He was an outdoorsman at heart, known for his warm smile, quick wit, and wonderful sense of humor. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable ability to make people laugh and feel at ease. Whether sharing a story, spending time with his beloved wife, Linda, and his son, Ryan, family and friends, or simply appreciating a beautiful day while riding in his golf cart, Jerry found joy in life’s everyday moments and made those around him grateful to share them.
He began playing golf as a young teenager and was blessed to play regularly until the age of eighty-two. One of his most memorable accomplishments was making two hole-in-ones during the year he turned eighty. For more than fifty years, he cherished the friendships, camaraderie, and countless memories made with his fellow golfers at Pilot Knob Golf Course.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Dean Ross and Ted Ross; and his sisters, Leola Wood and Anita Harris.
Left to cherish his memory with sad but grateful hearts are his beloved wife of fifty-nine years, Linda Luffman Ross; his son, Ryan Bradley Ross (Kelly); his brother, Wayne Ross (Libby) of Lake Lure; his extended family, Dicky and Pat Luffman, Rick and Anna Woodruff, and Billy and Joan Luffman; along with many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A graveside service will be conducted by Rev. Eddie Honeycutt on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, 1997 Pleasant Ridge Road, State Road, North Carolina.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
Jerry’s legacy of faith, love, laughter, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He lived a life marked by faith, service, laughter, and love. A life well lived and one that will be deeply missed.
In celebration of Jerry’s life, those attending the service are invited to wear their favorite golf attire as we honor his lifelong love of the game.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 968 North Bridge Street, Elkin, NC 28621 or Open Door Ministries, 400 N. Centennial Street, High Point, NC 27262.
