Jimmie Raeford Mathis

Mr. Jimmie Raeford Mathis, age 67, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Jimmie was born March 28, 1959 in Surry County to Noah Raeford and Peggy Swaim Mathis.

Jimmie loved working on cars, his family and had a big heart for helping others. He also enjoyed spending time with his dog Jackson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia McGee Mathis; sons, Billy Joe Mathis and David Raeford Mathis and brother, Bobby Watson Mathis.

Survivors include: his brother, Danny Mathis and wife Diane of Jonesville; sisters, Janet Vestal and husband Pete of Yadkinville, Kathy Huggins and husband Gregory of Jonesville, Wendy Combs of Traphill and Susan Hooker and husband Terry of Roaring River; several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday. May 21, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Wesley Smith officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens.

Flowers will be accepted.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors on the 4th floor ICU at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for their love and care.
