John Henry Baker, Jr.

Mr. John “Johnny” Henry Baker, Jr.  age 92 of Roaring River passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at his home. Mr. Baker was born March 18, 1931 in Wilkes County to John Henry Baker Sr. and  Mary Isabell Luffman Baker.

John retired from Thomasville Bus Service, he enjoyed dancing and was an avid Gardner. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sons; Terry Allen Baker, James Avery Baker; sisters Marie Baker, Ruth Gregory; brothers, Odell Lee Baker, Charlie Reynolds; brothers-in-law; Earl Wagoner, Billy Gregory; sister-in-law; Norma Jane Baker.

Survivors include: A brother, Maynard Reynolds and wife Shirley of State Road, four sisters, Maxine Wagoner of Roaring River, Idesta Lyon and husband Joe, of Elkin, Ruby Hawkins and husband Jim of Thurmond, Cathy Collins and husband Eddie of Wilkesboro; sister-in-law; Jolene Reynolds of North Wilkesboro, daughter-in-law; Loretta Baker of Thomasville; grandson Gary Allen Baker and wife Chas; three great-grandchildren, also several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted Sunday, November 12, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Keith Lyon officiating. Burial will follow at Little Elkin Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
