John David Luffman, 92, transitioned from this life on May 22, 2026. He was born on December 25, 1933, to James Bradford, Sr. and Mamie Love Luffman in Wilkes County.
David graduated Ronda High School in 1952 and married his high school sweetheart Peggy Baity. He worked in the family grocery store and at the original Brendle’s Wholesale in Elkin. David and Peggy moved to High Point where he worked for Globe Furniture, and the family attended Lexington Avenue Baptist Church. They moved to Winston-Salem, with David, and later Peggy, working for the newly formed Carolina Medical Electronics. When the Company moved to King, they followed and lived in King until he and Peggy retired in 1989. They moved to North Fort Myers, FL, returned to Clingman in 2000 and then moved to Apex in 2012.
David and Peggy, were married just shy of 74 years, were full of life and love. They played golf, card games, doubles tennis, shuffleboard and rode bicycles. Together they hosted family and friends and traveled extensively around the United States and across Western Europe. A favorite pastime of David’s was working large puzzles then framing some for display. A collector of photos plus news clippings, he created 20 “memory books” documenting family history, Duke sports, and favorite players. David was a church deacon and an ambassador for his family and the community wherever he lived. His amiable manner meant that he never met a stranger.
David is survived by his wife Peggy, daughter Darlene Shore and her husband Steve, son Christopher Luffman and his wife Becky, granddaughter Stefanie Kuzdrall and her husband David and great-grandson Dylan Kuzdrall. A private family service will be conducted, at a later date, in Apex, North Carolina.
