Mrs. Lee Ann Johnson, age 82, of Tobaccoville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at High Point Medical Center. She was born on June 5, 1943, in Hartford, Connecticut, to Francis and Mabel McLaughlin.
Lee Ann was affectionately known as Wifey, Mom, Grandma, Great Grammy, Sister, and Aunt Lee. She will be lovingly remembered for her spirited personality, kind heart, and deeply nurturing nature. She had an extraordinary way of making everyone feel cared for—always checking in, always ensuring those she loved were healthy, happy, and never forgotten. Her love reached far and wide and was felt deeply by all who knew her.
As a devoted military wife, Lee Ann embraced a life of service, travel, and sacrifice, moving across the world in support of her family. No matter where life stationed her, she made every place feel like home. Through warmth, stability, and love, she created meaningful holidays and bridged the distance from extended family, turning unfamiliar places into cherished homes. Her life stands as a testament to the quiet strength of military families—reminding us that service extends far beyond the person in uniform and is lovingly shared by the family who stands beside them.
Lee Ann is survived by her daughters, Brenda Ann Johnson of Cartersville, Georgia, and Melissa Ann Deal and her husband, Alex, of Thomasville, North Carolina. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Chelsea Ann Smith and her husband, Channon; James Trevor Deal and his wife, Katie; and Bethany Ann Hovis and her husband, Michael; Her legacy continues through her beloved great-grandchildren: Finnegan Maxwell Smith, Scarlett Rose Hovis, James Bennett Deal, Conrad Robert Hovis, Emilia‑Blake Robin Smith, Nolan Charles Deal, and Violet Lou Hovis. She is further survived by her sister, Susan Abbott and her husband Bob, along with her sister‑in‑law and brothers‑in‑law, many cherished nieces and nephews, and a very close dear friend, Melissa Kirchner. Lee Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Claude Robert Johnson, as well as her parents, sisters‑in‑law, brothers‑in‑law, a niece, and many treasured friends.
A private family service will be held to celebrate Lee Ann’s life. The family extends their sincere gratitude to the compassionate staff at High Point Medical Center for the exceptional care and kindness shown to her and her loved ones.
