Mrs. Linda Mae O'Neal, age 72, of Elkin, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, surrounded by loved ones.
Linda was born September 1,1953 in Surry County, NC to the late Robert Earl and Daisy Marie Owens.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Hartness O’Neal Sr.; her sister in law, Nancy Owens; brothers-in-law, Ray Coe and Jerry Lee Coe, Sr.
Linda is survived by her greatest love and proudest accomplishment, her son , Michael Hartness O’Neal of Vancouver, British Columbia, and husband Michael David Lapp.
She is also survived by her twin sister and eternal wombmate, Glinda Kay Owens Coe; her brother, John Robert Owens; her sister Margaret Owens Coe; her nieces,
Adrienne Coe, Lola Coe Royal and husband Brian, Virginia (Jenny) Coe, and Tammy Owens Dapprich..
Her nephews, Jerry Lee Coe, Jr. and wife Amanda; Phillip Owens and wife Mary Danner - Owens, and Garland Owens; A brother in law, Roger O’Neal and wife Nora; many great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as her lifelong friend, Esteleen Price.
Linda had a gift for making happy memories, lacing together laughter, and a whole lot of love. Her house was the heart of the family. She loved cooking for those she loved, hosting gatherings, filling up her home with warmth and comfort and acceptance.
Linda’s love of the outdoors, camping, and fishing was contagious, often taking her many nieces and nephews with her.
Linda selflessly gave more than she took and did so with a smile. The memories made shaped the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing such a strong and loving woman.
Linda O’Neal was a gift to all who knew her. She was a tough act to follow, leaving a hole in the world that can never be filled.
A memorial service honoring Linda O’Neal will be held Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Adam Collins officating. Inurnment will follow at White Rock Cemetery.
