Maynard Lance Holbrook, age 77, of Ronda passed away April 23, 2021 at his home. Maynard was born June 6, 1943 in Wilkes County to James Wint and Etta Shumate Holbrook.
Maynard served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. Maynard loved his family, music and NASCAR. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandson Bradley. Maynard was a very talented musician and vocalist. He sang with his family members and several bands for numerous years. He had the privilege of traveling to numerous places in the United States and overseas. Maynard was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in the Clingman Community. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son James Lance Holbrook, his sisters, Pauline Johnson, Vallie Church, his brothers, Carlene Holbrook, Roscoe Holbrook, Fred Holbrook and Gary Holbrook.
Survivors include, his wife of 54 years, Hilda Smith Holbrook of the home, a daughter LaDonya Pope and grandson, Bradley Pope of Winston Salem, a sister Lana Busic and husband David of Sparta, several nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be, Kevin Hall, Jeffery Mickel, Bradley Pope, Mike Holbrook, Dylan Kanupp and Justin Cleary.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 26, 2021 at 3:00pm at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Murphy officiating. Mr. Holbrook will lie instate from 2-3pm prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors conducted by NC National Guard Honor Guard and VFW Post 10346.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Martha Jones and the special caregivers for all the love given to Maynard during his sickness.
