Mrs. Nora Bowers Carter, age 83, of Elkin passed away Sunday, March 27, 2022 at Pruitt Health of Elkin. Mrs. Carter was born June 19, 1938 in Wilkes County to Glen and Lois Tucker Bowers.
Mrs. Carter was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and retired from Brendle’s. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Tyre “T.D.” Carter; son, Marty Carter; brothers, Fred Bowers and his wife Geraldine, Alger Bowers; brother-in-law, Gene Harris; and sister-in-law, Brenda Byrd.
Survivors include: her daughter, Sheila Sparks of Elkin; son, Sandy Carter of Mint Hill; daughter-in-law, Nicola Carter of New York; sister, Ruth Vanhoy and her husband Luther of West Yadkin; brothers-in-law, Stony Carter and his wife Sara of Elkin, Jerry Byrd of Elkin; sisters-in-law, Gail Harris of Wilkesboro, Mary Bowers of Mocksville; grandchildren, Anna Sparks, Zachary Carter, Chloe Carter, Dallas Carter, Ty Carter, Ben Carter; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A private graveside service will be conducted at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Danny Dodds and Dr. Jeff Harris officiating. Mrs. Carter will lie-in-state Tuesday, March 29, 2022 from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, PO Box 22324, New York, NY 10087 ( www.lls.org ) or Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 593 Pleasant Hill Dr., Elkin, NC 28621.
The family would like to thank the staff of Pruitt Healthcare; Pruitt Hospice; and Dr. Rupali Bhave and staff at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Cancer Center for their care.
