Odean Hughes Bryant

Mr. Odean Hughes Bryant, age 82, of Elkin passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center.  Mr. Bryant was born March 16, 1941 in Surry County to Ott and Esta Walters Bryant.

Odean was a member of Arlington First Baptist Church and retired from Pilot Trucking/Teamsters. He was an avid walker and enjoyed working with his hands. Odean was encourager to his family, friends and church family and following retirement, served as a school bus driver.

In addition to his parents, Odean was preceded in death by a daughter, Norma Pruitt, a son, Alex Bryant and a sister, Barbara Lewis.

Survivors include: his wife, Patricia Cleary Bryant of the home; sons, Michael Bryant and his wife Lauri of Jonesville, Eric Bryant and his wife Deanna of Jonesville; daughter, Chrissy Norman and her husband Dean of Elkin; step-son, Wayne Carter and his wife Billye of Elkin; sister, Shelvia Cox; grandchildren, Shonda, Amanda, Heather, Matthew, Tyler, Denise, Dean, Riley, Samantha, Alexa; and several great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted Friday, April 7, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Chris Alford and Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington First Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
