Mr. Osler Javan Jenkins, age 91, of Elkin, passed away peacefully at his home on May 22nd 2025, surrounded by the love of those who meant the most to him.
Mr. Jenkins was born in Surry County on October 30, 1934, to the late Hairm Winfield Jenkins and Debbie Wood Jenkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life and devoted wife, Magdalene Griffen Jenkins; his son, Kenneth Wayne Griffen; his daughter, Tammy Jenkins Nixon; his sisters, Mattie Coe, Eller Childress, Saedie Jenkins, Lula Jenkins, Laura Jenkins, and an infant baby girl Jenkins; his brothers, Howard Jenkins, Sandy Jenkins, and Terry Jenkins; and his brother-in-law, Donald Ray Griffen.
Osler was a man of unwavering faith, a servant’s heart, and a deep, abiding love for his family and community. He lived a life that reflected kindness, humility, and generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer words of encouragement. To know him was to know someone who quietly made the world a better place, one act of kindness at a time.
He was a devoted husband, a proud father, a loving grandfather, and a cherished great-grandfather. His family was the center of his world, and he took great joy in watching them grow, guiding them with wisdom, patience, and love. The legacy he leaves behind is not only in the lives he helped shape, but in the values he instilled—faith, hard work, and compassion for others.
Osler retired from Connex Pipe in Virginia, a career that reflected both his skill and dedication. Even beyond his profession, he used his talents to serve others, often welding for members of the community whenever there was a need. His willingness to help never went unnoticed and will not be forgotten.
In the late 1980s, under his very own carport, Osler helped start the CC Camp Fire Department alongside Wade Mounce, George Wilmoth, and Al Sloop. What began as a humble effort grew into something meaningful for the community, and Osler faithfully served for 35 years. His commitment to protecting and serving others stands as a testament to the kind of man he was—selfless, dependable, and deeply rooted in community.
In his free time, Osler found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved racing, especially local dirt track racing, where he could often be found enjoying the excitement and camaraderie. He also enjoyed golfing whenever he had the chance, and he treasured the time spent working with his hands, especially welding for friends and neighbors.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter of the home, Debra “Cindy” Jenkins Welborn; his grandchildren, Jason Welborn, Marcie and John Johnson, Logan and Cerria Nixon, and Maggie Welborn and her fiancé, Austin Prevette. He was blessed with nine great-grandchildren, Kinley Welborn and fiancé Chance Elmore, Shelby Grace Johnson, Ford Johnson, Gracie Mae Prevette, Grayson Prevette, Cash Johnson, Graham Prevette, Griley Prevette, and Harlow Nixon, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Barbara and Mike Love; three special nephews, Roger Jenkins, Joey Jenkins, and Michael Jenkins; along with many loving great-nieces and nephews who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
Osler also leaves behind many dear and special friends, including Johnny Welborn, Wade Mounce, Cleveland Cockhram, Allison Blackburn, and Deborah Garris, all of whom were blessed to share in his life and friendship.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice—especially Romona Pardue, Ashley Davis, Leah, Madeline, Mandy, and Greg—as well as Dr. Paul Gulley, for the exceptional love, care, and compassion shown during his final months. Their kindness brought comfort not only to Osler but to his entire family.
Though his passing leaves a space that can never be filled, the family finds peace and comfort in knowing that Osler has been welcomed home—reunited with those who went before him—and is now resting in the presence of the Lord. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and his love a gift that will live on in all who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
