Otis Harold Massey

Otis Harold Massey of Sherrills Ford, N.C. was born May 10,1943 in Jefferson, Georgia. He passed on to his eternal home February 6, 2026. His parents were Otha and Ethel Massey (Chastain).

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Howard and his son David Massey (Laura).

He is survived by his wife Sharlene (Money), his children Steve and his wife Linda, Teresa Snead and her husband Briston, grandchildren C.J. Massey and his wife Madison, Mindy Goddard and her husband Kevin, Dillon Hayes and his wife Rachel, Andrew Hayes and great grandchild Lincoln Hayes. His brothers Bobby and his wife Anne, Donald and his wife Charlotte, Joseph and his wife Kathy, sister Becky White, and many nieces and nephews. Stepchildren Brent Hicks and Meredith Money. Step grandchildren Bradley Wrenn, Summer Wrenn and her fiancé Joseph Risko, Alexis Egri, Nicole Collins, Hannah Snead, Briston Jr. Snead and step great grandchild Skylar Snead.

Mr. Massey enlisted in the army in 1962 and actively served until 1985. He was awarded National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Army Commendation Medal (2d Oak Leaf Cluster), and Good Conduct Medal (6 awards). In his civilian life he worked as a Court Reporter in Superior Court for the state of North Carolina.

Otis loved refurbishing classic cars, coin collecting, reading, boating and fishing. He was dearly loved by all who knew him and highly respected by his peers.

A graveside service will be held at Little Elkin Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 11, at 2:30 PM. The family will receive friends at Elkin Funeral Service from 1:00–2:00 PM prior to the service.
