Mr. Ransom Vandale Wood, age 85, of Elkin, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, June 20, 2025.Ransom was born December 22, 1939, in Wilkes County to Joe and Pheba Durham Wood. Ransom was known by many in the community for his kind and gentle nature. He loved his farm animals and farmed every chance he had. He was known for years at the local restaurant for serving "The Best Gravy Around." He served in the United States Army serving some time in Germany as a mechanic and served as Honor Guard in the 1969 Dwight D. Eisenhower funeral.

He was a member of Knobbs Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Ransom was preceded in death by his wife, Libby Stanley Wood; a daughter, Lisa Ann Wood; and brothers, Delos Wood, L. C. Wood, Roger Wood, and Henry Wood; as well as sisters, Dorothy Brown, Rosa Lee Hayes, Pearl Wood, and Ruth Wood.

Ransom's passing leaves a void in the hearts of his loved ones. Survivors include a son, Timmy Wood and wife Maj Anne of Thurmond; daughters Tonya Gentry and husband Kenneth of Elkin, Donna Roope and husband Will of Hays; brothers David Wood and wife Kathy of Traphill, Bob Wood and wife Faye of Traphill, six grandchildren whom he loved as much as life itself, Timothy Roope and wife Andrea of Hays, Kelly Gentry and wife Julie of New Hampshire, Alicia Burton of King, Kayla Gentry of Elkin, Chase Wood of Thurmond, Hunter Wood of Thurmond and a special little one, Bryleigh Miller of Hays, many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 23, 2025, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Knobbs Baptist Church, with Rev. David Spicer and Rev. Danny Bauguess officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by the Yadkin VFW Post 10346.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Knobbs Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/of Sharon Perrone, 4544 Westhill Place, Kernersville, NC 27284.
