Raymond Ray VanHoy

Mr. Raymond “Ray” VanHoy, age 96, of Elkin passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2026 at Chatham Nursing and Rehabilitation. Mr. VanHoy was born on March 27, 1930 to John R. and Gertha Nichols VanHoy.

Mr. VanHoy was a dedicated member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served on the Building and Grounds and Cemetery Committees. He was also a member of the Jonesville Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca VanHoy, son, Ricky VanHoy, sisters, Judy Ann VanHoy, Linda Poplin, Dorothy Beulin, Lorene Simmons, and Gladys Henderson, brothers, Howard VanHoy and Glenn VanHoy, a granddaughter, Joey’s Little Girl, and a son-in-law, Wayne Shore.

Survivors include: sons, Doug VanHoy and wife Brenda of Elkin and Joey VanHoy of Jonesville; daughters, Vicki Shore of Hamptonville, Cindy Elliot and husband Robert of Hamptonville, Lou Ann Poe and husband Jon of Elkin, and Beth Haynes and husband Art of Elkin; sisters, Liz Reynolds and husband Leonard of Jonesville and Kay VanHoy of Jonesville; brother, Charlie VanHoy of Jonesville; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; daughter-in-law, Ruth VanHoy; several nieces and nephews; and a special pet, Pup Pup.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Fowler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, October 27, 2026 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.

The family would like to thank the staff of Chatham Nursing and Rehabilitation for their care and support over the years and especially the ones on the 400 hall who cared for both Ray and Rebecca.
