Raymond William Walls

Mr. William Raymond Walls, age 95, of Abingdon, VA, and formerly of Roaring River, NC, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 8, 2025, at 8:05 p.m.

Mr. Walls was born February 1, 1930, in Wilkes County, NC, to the late James Oscar Walls and Florence Nan Pruitt Walls. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro, NC.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Walls was preceded in death by his first daughter, Patty Walls Brooks, and his son William Gregory Walls, two sisters, Dorothy Willard and Minnie Callahan, and two brothers, Roby Bill (RB) Walls and Cebert Walls.

Mr. Walls is survived by the love of his life and wife of 75 years, Vivian Byrd Walls, one daughter, Gaye Walls and partner, Zack Henderson, of Wilkesboro, NC, 4 grandchildren, Tricia Brooks, Matthew Brooks, Shaun Brooks Dowell (Kenneth),and Megahn Byrd, eight great grandchildren, Rachel Ford, Noah Ford, Zachary Ford, Sheldon Boswell, Shayden Boswell and Seamus Boswell, Keleb Dowell, and Daylon Dowell, three sisters Onna Lee Hooker of King, NC, Lola Caudill, of No. Wilkesboro, NC, Velma Fulp of King, NC, one sister in law, Aileen Bauguess (Batler) of Pfafftown, NC, four bother in laws Douglas Byrd (Geneva) of Roaring River, NC, Keith Byrd of North Wilkesboro, Hal Byrd, of Winston-Salem, NC, Billy Byrd Osborne (Terry) of Harmony, NC and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Walls received technical training in Greenville, SC, and was employed by Chatham Manufacturing in Elkin. He retired after a 26-year career as a loom technician. He was a volunteer with the Shepherd’s Crossroad Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Walls was a devout Christian and often helped the elderly and shut ins in the community. He enjoyed gardening, farming and spending time with his family.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Bethany Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro with the Rev. Daniel Shore and Rev. Michael Goldman officiating. Services will be on June 19th at 2:00p.m. The receiving of family and friends will immediately follow the service.
