Rick Freeman

Mr. Charles Ricky “Rick” Freeman, age 76, of Elkin, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2023 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital.  Mr. Freeman was born February 2, 1947 in Surry County to Rev. Charles Robert and Dewitt Gentry Freeman.

In addition to his parents Rick was preceded in death by his daughter, Kelly Freeman Greer.

Rick worked in the banking field for most of his career, retiring as assistant vice president of Yadkin Valley Bank with 32 years of service. He was a past president of the Elkin Jaycees and former Jonesville Town Commissioner. He was an avid golfer until his health declined, and in his younger years, he drag raced and competed in dirt track racing. He was known for his humor and could brighten your day with his wit and stories.  Rick attended several churches over the years and had a strong Christian faith. He was a loving husband and father.

Survivors include: his wife of 52 years, Joyce Walls Freeman of the home; mother-in-law, Mittie Walls of Elkin; sister-in-law, Kathy Spillman and her husband Dana of East Bend; brother-in-law, Tommy Walls and his wife Tina of Elkin; nieces, Andrea Wall and her husband Eric of East Bend and Dara Waddell and her husband John of East Bend; special cousins, Rose Marie Harris of Tennessee and Sandy Swift Urback of Holly Ridge.

A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, April 8, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Mike Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Freeman will lie-in-state Saturday from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service and the family will receive friends from 3:00 - 4:00 prior to the service.
