Robert “Keith” Tulbert, age 68, of Elkin, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. He was born in Elkin on October 22, 1956, and was the son of the late Bobby Lee Tulbert and Barbara Ann Pennington Tulbert.
Keith found joy in fishing on quiet mornings, tuning into his scanner radio to stay connected with local happenings, and cheering on his favorite NASCAR drivers. His commitment to service was evident in his over 20 years as a volunteer firefighter with Pleasant Hill Fire Department, where he proudly served as chief for a time. But above all, Keith cherished his role as “Papa,” finding his greatest happiness in the laughter and love of his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved daughter Jennifer Elgabrowny, his father-in-law RJ Evans, and his brother-in-law Steve Caudill.
Keith is survived by his devoted wife, Ellen Evans Tulbert; his son Joshua Keith Tulbert and partner Traci Ballance; his daughter Julie Tulbert and partner Caleb Bowers; his sister Lynn Zimmerman and brother-in-law Pete Zimmerman; sister-in-law Lynn Caudill; son-in-law Taurik Elgabrowny; mother-in-law Judy Evans; brother-in-law Jason Evans and wife Lauren. His cherished grandchildren Barbara “Bobbi” Elgabrowny and Ibrahim “Ibi” Elgabrowny; nephews Ian Zimmerman and partner Mackenzie Andrillion, Ryan Zimmerman and wife Meredith; niece Kaitlin Evans; and great-nieces Ellie Grace Zimmerman and Slonane Maclean Zimmerman.
A graveside memorial service for family and close friends will be held at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery on Friday, August 29 at 3:00 PM, with Dr. Danny Dodds officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, honoring Keith’s courageous journey and his enduring legacy of care.
