Roger Stephen Swaim

Roger Stephen Swaim, age 77, of Elkin, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Duke University Hospital, Durham.

Mr. Swaim was born September 8, 1945 in Wilkes County to Roger Garland Swaim and Susan Sprinkle Swaim.  He was a 1963 graduate of Elkin High School and a State 3A champion wrestler. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Swaim was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Swaim was preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie Swaim.

Survivors include: sister, Cheryl Hinshaw and her husband Phil of Winston-Salem; sister-in-law, Wanda Swaim; nieces, Angie Swaim of Pfafftown, Beth Recchio and her husband Joey Matteo of Winston-Salem; nephews, Todd Hinshaw and his wife Mallie of Sparta, Darrin Hinshaw of Winston-Salem; great-nephews, Ryley Hinshaw, Nick Lawrence, Jonathan Murray, Bobby Murray; and great-niece, Samantha Murray.

A graveside service will be conducted Friday, July 14, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Danny Dodd officiating.
