Vernon Paul Medley

Mr. Vernon Paul Medley, age 92, of Elkin, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Woltz Hospice Home. He was born on June 26, 1934, in Surry County to Lucian Ray and Nora Royal Medley.

Mr. Medley was a member of Bessie’s Chapel Baptist Church. He was also a 60-plus-year member of Copeland Masonic Lodge No. 390 AF&AM, Oasis Temple Shrine, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7794, and a member of the American Legion. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and deer hunting. One of his other hobbies was playing the banjo, something he started doing at 62 years old.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Southard Medley; brothers, Teddy Medley, Larry Medley, and Infant James M. Medley; and son-in-law, Greg Moore.

Survivors include: son, Marty Medley of Elkin; daughter, Paula Moore of Elkin; grandchildren, Shannon Skaggs, Samantha Moore, and Andrew Moore; great-grandchildren, Hunter Skaggs and Ryder Skaggs; nephews, Chris Medley, Ronald Southard and wife Karen, and Rodney Southard; and special friends, Rex and Donna Ray.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Rocky Ford Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Roger Hensley officiating. Military honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10346 and Masonic Rites will be provided by Copeland Masonic Lodge No. 390 AF&AM.
