William Thomas Lyon

William Thomas “Bill” Lyon, age 86, of Thurmond, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023 at the Lotus Village Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Sparta.

Bill was born December 25, 1936 in Wilkes County to Linville and Flora Cheek Lyon.

Bill retired from NC Department of Transportation and was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. Bill always made time for his grandkids whom he loved very much. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and gardening and sharing harvest with his friends and neighbors.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Delcie Gentry Lyon; and two brothers Harold Lyon and Orrion Lyon.

Survivors include: son Danny Lyon and his wife Karen of Elkin, daughter Tammy Prevette and husband Randy of Thurmond; Two brothers, Joseph Lyon and wife Bonnie of Greensboro, Lee Lyon and wife Carol of State Road, two sisters, Annie Layell of State Road, and Iona Martin and her husband Freddie of Thurmond; two grandchildren, Kayla Westra and her husband Coad, Dillion Prevette and his wife DeAnna; and six great grandchildren, Inezleigh Westra, Iselle Westra, Esme Westra, Eiris Westra, Liam Prevette, and Annaliese Prevette.

A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, December 2, 2023, 12:00 p.m., at Pleasant View Baptist Church with Rev. Joseph Wood and Rev Kenny Wood officiating.  Interment will follow at Pleasant View Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 11am-12pm prior to the service at Pleasant View Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Pleasant View Baptist Church.
